Kezziah’s wardrobe is a British based brand inspired by the strong bold prints, symbolic pattern, and rich culture of Africa with a western fusion working in a wide range natural fabrics and traditional and modern handmade prints to achieve aesthetically pleasing wearable Art.
The brains behind the Label is British designer, Artist and educator Kemi Oloyede, who is also the creative director of Recyclothes .com an ethical fashion brand that creates fashion through upcycling or recycling.
The name Keziah has Hebrew and African roots, the first representing beauty and equality named after the fragrant tree Cassia and secondly in Africa the name kasia is known as favourite.
Brought up in England, of Nigerian parentage she went to Nigeria to live as a young child and grew up absorbing the rich cultural heritage and inspired by the Yoruba speaking women from the Western part of the country known for their woven Aso oke and indigo batik prints called Adire eleko. These elaborately woven garments are worn as uniforms for families for weddings, christenings and other occasions.
She learnt how to create her own patterns on fabric, believing that every woman deserved the right to have their clothes exude individuality because back in Nigeria, people would design their own garments and take their fabric to the local dressmaker.
She went on to study Fine art at Nigeria’s premier college, Yaba college of Technology and returned back to England to continue her studies in Fashion design and Art education at Greenwich University leading onto a 16 year career in secondary school and further education and more recently a new post as the Head of apprentices at Fashion Capital in East London.
When asked to sum up the brand, Kemi’s aspirations for ‘’Kezziahs wardrobe are as a fragrant sweet fusion of beauty and culture “ and sincerely hopes that garments from Kezziah’s Wardrobe will one day become the first choice of every woman who values style, versatility and individuality at an affordable cost.
